Social media can be an effective tool to build your business, but it can also be overwhelming trying to decide what to post on social media. It’s hard to know how often you should be posting or what kind of content will get the most engagement.
While there are some different strategies you can use based on which social network you’re on (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), there are some basic guidelines you can follow no matter where you are on the internet.
The infographic above lists 70 great ideas of things to share with your audience across all platforms in 2022 (and beyond). Here are just some of them…
Remind People Who You Are, How You Got Started
What’s your origin story—the story of how you started and grew your company into what it is today? Share it with fans and followers, and they might even share their own stories with you.
As an added bonus, if they hear about your successes from you or your employees directly, they’ll feel like insiders as opposed to simply consumers.
And as we know, marketing comes down to relationships: Those who feel connected to a brand are more likely to buy from that brand.
Go Behind The Scenes
Go behind-the-scenes of your latest product launch, new services, a project you’re working on, a live event—whatever it is that makes your business tick.
People love a peek into what goes into something they’re interested in and might not otherwise get to see. It gives them a feeling of being closer to you and makes it easier for them to trust you.
They feel like they know you and your business better and that helps build up an audience.
Share a Personal Story
While it’s a good idea to market your brand, you shouldn’t forget about sharing a little bit of yourself with your followers.
Allowing people behind-the-scenes access into your personal life is a great way to connect with them on a more human level and help build trust in you and your company.
Plus, telling stories about what matters most to you can make your content feel much more authentic.
Tell People What You Sell
Tell your followers what you do, how you do it, and what your company can offer them.
While there are no steadfast rules for posting sales content, keep in mind that most people are visual creatures. Share images and videos of things you do as a brand; it will likely entice people into following along with your posts.
Keep these posts to a minimum though, otherwise you’ll come across as too salesy.
Share a Joke (Graphics or Text)
If you’re looking to grab your audience’s attention and stay true to your brand, it helps to keep things light and humourous.
This could be as simple as an image or a meme, or something more thought-provoking—just make sure it aligns with what you do at work!
This can be especially important if your company is in a field where humour isn’t typically expected—such as law or finance.
Share a Quote (Graphics or Text)
Quotes make great content because people love to share motivational content with their friends. Sharing a quote on social media is also a good way to inject some positivity into your timeline.
Instead of sharing a quote you made up, search online or ask someone who inspires you for their favourite quote.
It can be from anyone, even an athlete or a movie star! Making something real makes it more personal and impactful.
Host an #AMA (Ask Me Anything)
Hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) is a popular way to grow your audience.
It’s essentially you making yourself available online to answer questions people have about you, your company, or other things relevant to what you do.
A little bit of preparation can go a long way here—read up on how best to hold an AMA; start thinking of questions; and think about topics related to whatever it is that you do.
Post a How To or Tutorial
Whether it’s a 5 minute instructional video or a 10 page how-to guide, people are always looking to learn something new.
Take some time to create an in-depth tutorial about something your customers might be interested in. Or post a short 1 minute tutorial on how to do something they frequently struggle with!
Ask a Question
One of the easiest ways to encourage engagement is to ask your audience a question.
This could be something straightforward, like Do you have any tips for reaching more customers through social media? Or, you could get creative with it.
For example, Which do you prefer: Facebook or Twitter? This strategy not only encourages engagement—it gives your audience an opportunity to show off their knowledge.
Host a Poll
Ask your community what they think of hot topics in social media marketing.
Some great questions could be: What’s your favorite social media tool? Do you use Facebook to market your business or are you still hesitant to jump on board with Facebook marketing? Have you ever seen a tweet go viral and if so, what was it about that tweet that made it take off like it did?
The options are endless! And don’t forget to offer up prizes (perhaps product giveaways) for people who answer your poll question correctly!
